So Much To Do, With So Little Clue

So, since I have last had a blog, much has happened in blog land. I think I may spend my weekend researching burning questions like:

  1. What are Twitters, are they noisy and do they require feeding?
  2. Is Technorati a new kind of pasta?
  3. Will an Entrecard get me into hot nightclubs - or is it just an appertif before something bigger?
  4. How to get my Flickr stuff on here?
  5. What do I want for some kind of banner/logo thingie? And am I prepared to wrestle for hours with Photoshop until it looks the way I want?
  6. What the hell have I gotten myself into?
  7. Over there —–> in the sidebar, why is one of my tag thingies really, really HUGE, and the other one isn’t?

I think it’s also pretty obvious I haven’t started my organised bulk writing yet, as all I seem to mention is blogging, so anyone reading here will just have to put up with a little drivel until the fog in my head clears. I’m working it people, honest! It’s just going to be a slow ride, and it could get messy.

To avoid as much bloodshed as possible, any advice on where to start would be much appreciated.

1. Twitter is a way to exchange short messages with other bloggers. My Twitter profile is at http://twitter.com/benbarden if you’d like to have a look. If you sign up, click the “follow” link on my profile (you have to be signed in) and see what you think. I’d also recommend http://www.twhirl.org so you can use Twitter in a desktop program rather than in your browser.
2. lol. :) Technorati is a way to keep track of sites that link to yours. For instance I found your site because you linked to mine. See here: http://www.technorati.com/blogs/www.benbarden.com?reactions - You can register your site there too.
3. I have a post that might help: http://www.benbarden.com/view.php/article/936/blogging-networks-entrecard
4. You may need a WordPress plugin; I don’t use WordPress so maybe someone else can answer this one.
5. Good question… I’d say go for something unique that is a good fit for your blog, but that doesn’t really give you specifics. It has to be a look that you’re happy with and you can always change it later - redesigning can be good but don’t do it too frequently. Maybe a designer can help you if you don’t want to do it yourself :)
6. Something that can use up a lot of your time, but it’s worth it!
7. The more posts use a tag, the bigger the tag is. I’m not sure what options there are in WordPress to control this. If you go to my site and scroll to the very bottom, you’ll see a link called “Tag Map” in the blue bar. I’ve got loads of tags as I’ve written loads of posts; the biggest tags are the ones I’ve used the most.

Hope this helps !

Ahh Ben, what would I do without you?
:)

Loved the answers from Ben, they have given me some new clues as well!

1.Twitter is tre’ cool but very addictive/compulsive!
2.LOL - I wish. I used to pay attention to it back when I had a really nice rank. Now I’m lucky if I check once a week.
3.LOL - I use it, but can’t say much to help as I don’t use it as much as I should either.
4, There are Flickr instructions on the site (somewhere). I had a banner up for a while, but took it down. don’t ask me why - it’s a long story.
5. I can’t help. I paid someone to set up my blog the way I liked it ;)
6.LOL - I ask myself that all the time
7.Because you use one tag more than the other? (I don’t have this function)

HTH! (hope that helped)!

LOL - I LOVED your descriptions!!!!! :)

where is your feed button ?
