So what’s the best way to do it? Replying to comments I mean, for those in the gutter. How you like to get your rocks off is a whole new post. And probably a more interesting one, but still, I digress….
I do it (reply to comments) in the persons comment on my blog. But do they ever come back and read their old comment to see if I could be assed even reading it, let alone replying? Do you come back and read what awesome reply I gave you?
Kelley and Evyl and Anonymum do it that way - and as they’re all disgustingly awesome, perhaps it’s the way to go?
Or should I email my replies like the equally awesome Veronica and Jen?
How do you do it? How do you prefer it to be done to you? What’s the best way to get some interaction going?

Always!
If a person doesn’t acknowledge the comment in some way, eventually I wander away, never to return.
Ignoring comments, or choosing to only respond to some, is just as rude.
When you decide to do the post about getting your rocks off, give me some notice will you please hon? I’m bringing beer and popcorn
A-Mum: Yeah that’s what I thought. I have a couple of blogs I have commented on heaps, cos they actually interest me, but they don’t return the favour. I might still read, cos I like the content, but probably won’t bother to comment anymore.
And as for getting my rocks off? You first - I bet you could teach me a few things. Umm so to speak. Because I like you and all, just not in that way. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

I do go back to Kelley when I leave I comment, cos I know she will have left a reply. So if I know you will, I’ll come back.
Sometimes I don’t expect one, and I don’t think you have to respond to every single one, every single time. Responding to first time commenters is always good. (Is that me, here? I’m not sure.)
Missy: I’m replying, I’m replying! Please come back!! *offers a Missy a fifty*

I do come back to some blogs to check for comments or I subscribe to their comments.
On my own blog - I try to respond either on the comments section or by email or if the comment requires no comment from me - I will go visit them.
Blogger unfortunately doesn’t give you many options and now you don’t even get email notifications to comments. So it someone comments on an older message you don’t even know.
I am trying to find information about other comment systems to use within blogger/blogspot.
I should ask the forum …thanks
Trish: That’s why I don’t like Blogger much - too restrictive for my liking. Love that forum - there’s awesome people there. Like me

I think it doesn’t much matter as long as there is something.
I’m trying to get better at this myself.
Bettina: Yeah, get on with it you slack woman
Says me, who gets behind in the comments ALL the time!

I have been a bit slack lately. When I was on blogger I answered my comments in the comment section. Now I have been just thinking about it a lot instead of answering oops..
If I know that you are going to respond to me in the comments I will come back and check them.. but I also am a forgetterhead soo….
cheers kim
Kim: I’m totally with you on the fogetterhead thing. What was your name again….?

Me disgustingly awesome? Well you are half right anyway. I think the interplay between blog writer and commenter is the best part of a blog. That is why I choose to comment on the comment section. Although a nice e-mail acknowleging my comment is appreciated. Especially if it is accompanied by a nude pic of the commenter if they are female or their wife or girlfriend if they are a male.
Evyl: Maybe I should have said awesomely disgusting. And yeah about that nude pic, it’s in the mail, OK? Patience is a virtue, or some crap like that…

I use a plugin that lets my replies to my commenters appear both in the comments and emailed to the original commenter. I’ve written about it recently. It seems to work for me.
Jen: Actually, I remember that post. I may have to go back and re-read, as I have a brain like mashed potato which often doesn’t hold anything of interest whatsoever.

I try and make sure I follow the commenters and check out their sites.
I also love it when someone comments on my comment… so I tend to subscribe to comments.
BTW I love your logo - did you create that yourself?
Cellobella: Yep, I did it myself. I love doing the designy stuff. Whether I’m good at it is a matter of opinion, but I like a blog that’s not the same as anyone else’s. I mean, they all have common characteristics, but I just don’t want a recoloured version of 3654 other blogs.

A fifty? Deal! Nah, good posts is all I ask.
Missy: Just as bloody well! Because I was totally lying about the money. *mwahaha!* Sucked in

I usually return a comment in the thread someone posts a previous comment into on my own site. Sometimes I’ll leave it lying and come back a day later or so… just in case someone else has commented before hand. That makes it look like I’m not answering everybody all the time but have other things to do as well!
Mr V: See that’s where we differ. I have no life and spend my days contemplating commenting…

I started cause my lovelies requested that I do it. It is great to get some interacting between everyone and builds a little community I think.
I actually prefer it to direct emailing cause then everyone gets to respond to the responses. If that makes ANY sense!
Kelley: Yeah, I agree with the first bit re: the community thing. And yes, everyone else gets to see everyones else’s individual responses, which can be amusing in itself. Well, hopefully, anyway. Of course MY responses are hysterically amusing.
So yes, surprisingly enough? You made sense. Who would have thought???

I suck at responding to comments but I follow my commenters and if I find something I like I stick around and comment.
PS would LOVE for you to fiddle with my background. Am hankering for a green or maybe a deep blue.
Tiff: Glad to see you stick around here then
Will contact you about the background/makeover thingy and see what we can do!

Oh I am struggling with this big bloggy question myself at the moment… do I reply in the comments or do I reply via email!
I used to reply by email when I first moved to WP cause I was so excited that I could… now I wonder if it is better to comment on a comment.. and I am so confused I often don’t do anything at all… bad me!
Kate: Replying by email seems to take more effort, and as I am extraordinarily lazy? It just isn’t going to happen

I’m not sure, I usually comment on their comment, and then if they don’t comment back about my comment about their comment, I make no comment and ignore them - how rude.
But truthfully, I don’t always comment about their comment, because sometimes I have nothing to say about it, or it is just so short and sweet as to not require a reply.
Or, if I am just going to say “yeah, you’re right”, it seems pointless even putting anything.
If they get offended by that, then that is their choice - I am not going to modify my behaviour on my blog to fit in with what I imagine some people may like me to be, so I just comment if something they say inspires me to do so, otherwise I don’t.
I do read them all though
Tex: You shouldn’t have to modify your behaviour for anyone - it’s your blog. But yeah you’re right, some comments really don’t require an answer.
