More Crap About Me

Mother to 2 enormous teenage sons, wife to 1 average size husband, step-mum to another enormous teenage son, parent to 1 over-excited Labrador, and living and working in NSW Australia.

God help me.

Some brief points:

  1. I am an only child (which may or may not explain a lot).
  2. I have blue eyes.
  3. I’m about 5′2″.
  4. The hair is coppery…
  5. At the moment anyway.
  6. I was born in Northern Ireland in Belfast (which also may explain a lot).
  7. My mum is Australian.
  8. Dad was/is Irish.
  9. I haven’t seen him since I was 8.
  10. Sometimes I feel badly for not missing him.
  11. But I only remember bits about him, and they aren’t all good.
  12. I love how my boys adore their dad.
  13. He’s my ex.
  14. I have a nice ex (mostly).
  15. Sometimes I think my ex is nicer than me (except when he owes me money).
  16. The boys definitely are!
  17. I love my kids infinitely.
  18. They are the best things I have ever done.
  19. Even though I love them to pieces, somedays I don’t like them very much.
  20. That’s when they are being bratty and fighting.
  21. Which isn’t cherubic at all.
  22. I can be really, really impatient.
  23. And really, really impulsive.
  24. I like to laugh a lot.
  25. The boys make me laugh a lot.
  26. So does the husband.
  27. I met the husband on the internet.
  28. I think that makes us very hip and trendy.
  29. But maybe we are just geeky (he definitely is).
  30. He’s also gorgeous and intelligent and cooks sometimes.
  31. I like blonde hair and blue eyes.
  32. Caffeine rules my life.
  33. And I wish I could give up smoking.
  34. I like the smell of beer.
  35. I hate the taste of beer.
  36. I love good red wine.
  37. I love cheap red wine…hell, I love ANY red wine.
  38. I can be very selfish (the only child thing?).
  39. I’m also very generous.
  40. My best friend is Maria.
  41. I don’t ring her enough and I miss her tremendously.
  42. She lives in Victoria.
  43. I moved away.
  44. Which isn’t always a good thing.
  45. I don’t have a bestest friend here, and that makes me sad.
  46. Aquaintances aren’t the same.
  47. I stay up too late at night.
  48. I’m cranky in the mornings and am often almost late for work.
  49. I’m incredibly lazy.
  50. I love to read.
  51. There’s never enough time to read as much as I’d like.
  52. I first read Wuthering Heights in Year 5.
  53. I still like to read it.
  54. When I split with the ex, I lost 17 kilos (37lbs?).
  55. I put them all back on, and have recently lost them again.
  56. I don’t like that they went back in different places.
  57. I know I need more exercise but see #49.
  58. I don’t like shopping much - even for shoes and handbags
  59. But I have to.
  60. Because I work in an office, not a nudist colony, which is just as well for everyone else.
  61. Working fulltime makes me feel guilty quite often.
  62. Because I feel I’m not around enough for the boys and when I am I’m tired.
  63. I forget everything unless it’s written down.
  64. The little things in life usually impress me the most.
  65. Maybe that’s just as well for the husband :P
  66. My sense of humour can be a tad twisted.
  67. But I like it that way.
  68. I love old movies.
  69. I love “To Kill a Mockingbird”.
  70. The first crush I had on a movie star was Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
  71. I wanted my own Wookie as well.
  72. An Ewok would have sufficed though, ‘cos they are smaller.
  73. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan now however.
  74. Three was enough.
  75. If we could afford it I would cut down my days at work.
  76. I’d one day like to be a foster mum again.
  77. A while after we split up, one of my exes told me he was gay.
  78. It didn’t surprise me. Funny that.
  79. We are still good friends nearly 25 years later.
  80. I call him Will.
  81. He calls me Grace.
  82. I love my birthday.
  83. I love other peoples’ birthdays.
  84. I’m usually disappointed on mine.
  85. Birthdays are a day a year to feel special on.
  86. Not everyone feels this way so hence #84.
  87. I cry too easily.
  88. This sometimes frustrates me.
  89. I bottle too much up.
  90. I don’t like confrontations.
  91. They actually terrify me because I think no one will love me anymore.
  92. I’m sometimes very shy and awkward.
  93. I wish I was artistic, but it’s something you can’t learn.
  94. My mum sews beautifully, cooks beautifully and has an immaculate home.
  95. I don’t do or have any of the above much to her disgust.
  96. I love my mum, but sometimes I don’t like her.
  97. I wish had brothers and sisters to deflect her attention away from my obvious domestic shortcomings.
  98. I wish I had more children, especially a girl.
  99. But I’m still happy with the family I have.
  100. I’m amazed I thought of 100 things.
